1974 .44 mag 6 shooter
I just purchased a 1974 Virginian Dragooon .44magnum made by Interarms it is in exelent shape exept for the previous owner engraving his SS# on it .6" barrel and wooden grips. I would just like some insight on what you all think it may be worth so I know if I did well on my purchase. Thanks for any info.

Quite a bit of the value of these pistols is based on whether or not it was made in Europe- By Sauer or Hammerli- or the later US maunfacture (statrting around 1976). A Hammerli made Dragoon retailed for $250 back in 1976. Since you say your pistol dates from 1974 it should bring a premium. When the line was discontinued in 1984 suggested retail was around $300. I would suppose a standard Dragoon would bring around $250 in excellent shape plus another 10 to 15% for a Hammerli made pistol. A problem for you is the owners SS# engraved on the pistol. Although shooting ability is unaffected, this type of marking is a curse to any collectablity the pistol may have or ever will have. No serious collector wants to see even an importers marking, much less some guys ID number. Value will drop off quickly now and this gun has become strictly a shooter.
