.222 Rem reload question
I am trying to reload some .222 Remington shells. I have everything I need except the powder. All the primers and bullets came from a reloading kit I was given when I borrowed the gun. The reloading book was printed in 1953. (Pretty old equipment also, but works like a charm). I was wondering what kind of powder some of you use or recommend for reloading. Thanks.

I always found 4895 to be very accurate. I have made several
one hole groups with it.

19.6gr imr-4198, 52gr speer hollowpoint flat base, set oal at .003 from rifling. I get great groups with that load.
I'm a man,....but I can change,.....If I have to,......I guess.0 -
You guy have to try Hogdon Varget in the .222. 25 grains under a 50 gr. speer tnt=One hole groups and exploding woodchucks...

Thanks for all the information. I bought IMR 4198 today and loaded shells, some with 18.5 gr, 19.0, 19.5 and 20.0 gr. Now I have to go to the range and see which is best for my gun and then probably do some more tinkering. Thanks again!!!

When i reload .222 ammo or .223 i use IMR 4198. It has been very accurate in all the firearms i have shot chambered in that round. 0 -
85 ranger, Try some VARGET and ReLoader 7. Also if you need a new loading manual get yourself a Hodgdon Manual. They have loads using Hodgdon, Alliant(ReLoader), IMR and Winchester powders. It's pretty thorough. GHD 0 -
4198 is my choice. Have used it for years. 21 grs with a 50 gr bullet or 18 with a 55gr bullet. Thumb tacks at 200yards using a 15x leapold scope. Also put catfish bait on your target at 100 yards. then shoot the flys. You get a point for every leg left. 6 Points is harder then you think. This is a great way to relax and have fun. And people don't complain if you are shooting flys.
We had a shoot off at a range I was at many years ago. It was fun then any thing shooting flys. Hard to. Have fun see ya around I'm the one who is shooting flys at the range.0
