leupold question
I have a Leupold Vari-X II 3x9x50mm rifle scope. Why is the "turn dial" so hard to turn? It's almost impossible to increase/decrease magnification while look through the scope. I have to lower the gun and really twist it with some force. Is there any fix to this? Thanks

I have a new in box leupold alaskan 2 1/2 power rifle scope,
i got a good deal on (looking for rings) any way

I have owned a few Leupolds. Great scopes for the money. 'Even' the VX1 are excellent in terms of optical clarity, color rendetion, and durability.

LEUPOLD SCOPES ARE FINE IF YOU PUT THEM ON LIGHT RECOILING RIFLES, IF YOU USE THEM ON 300 MAG'S AND UP YOU WILL NEED 3 OF THEM, ONE IN THE MAIL ONE AT THE FACTORY AND ONE ON THE GUN. 0 -
I have a 3-9 vari-x 3 on a 300 mag for 3 years now and not one bit of a problem.I took a deer at over 300 yards this year with it.it has always held its zero with no problems.I wonder if someone needs 3 scopes for the same rifle, maybe they dont know how to install a scope!I like the ones i have,And will buy more.Randy W. 0 -
Leupolds are good scopes, no doubt about it. But they are not the only good scope. There are a few other brands which are just as good, with the same warranty, for less money. Nuff said.
And yes,...they do go back for repairs. I had to send a $1200 MK IV leupold back for service. If their top of line can have a problem, then so can the lesser priced models. ALL companies products will have a certain percentage of those that will have to go back, no-one is exempt from the law of numbers.
deerhntr,....You have a fine scope at your disposal, so go ahead and mount it and hunt. It will serve you well. I have heard that the alaskans will hold up to a bit of abuse.

Are you sure that it's not a LYMAN Alaskan scope?

I've had a 3-9x vari-x2 on a 308 Norma mag for 17 years. NEVER failed me yet. Stood up to Alaska winters, thousands of rounds of ammo, and it is always kept it's zero. Just my 2 cent's worth... 0 -
I have also had major problems with a leupold mounted on a 300 mag. A friend of mine wanted the scope so we traded and he sent it off to be repaired. He got rid of it shortly and bought a swarovski and will never own another leupold. Since you already have it i'd use it unless you will be hunting dangerous game or have a heavy recoil. 0 -
That Leupold Alaskan is a remake of the old Lyman Alaskan I believe. I own several Leupolds and have never had a problem with them. Have had them mounted on 223's all the way up to 500 AHR rifles and not a one ever malfunctioned.

Early Leupold model.
Some collectible value, and desired by many collectors who want to "peroidize", that is have all correct "time matching" items on a gun. look for them.
I have ring sets, somewhere. Will email you.

Just a short note. All my scopes are Leupold, do I have problems with them? Well yes! Have sent 2 back for repairs in 27 years. Have even seen other Leupolds from my friends be sent back that were brand new and couldn't adjust the elavation knob.
I seen a brand new $1500 Nighforce sent back also, so all of the brands are prone to falure. I have put 125 rounds thru my 300 mag with the Leupold 4.5 x 14 and no problems yet. I know this is not many but hopefuly it will stay together.0
