semi auto pistol deer hunter
I am currently using a T/C Contender in 7-30 waters for my deer hunting in WI. I am thinking about getting something a little easier to carry in a holster for still hunting. More than one shot would be nice too. I have looked at a lot of wheel guns but am having trouble finding any semi autos that fit the bill. Any suggestions on makes and caliber? Is the 38 Casull OK for 160 to 200 Lbs deer at under 75 yards? Any one tried it? "Not a Desert Eagle Fan" Thanks

I do not have the answer to your question, but would suggest that you take a look at the Colt Anaconda. I have a 6" with a Tasco PPII red dot sight on it. It is still fairly heavy, but quite accurate.
In Illinois you can only hangun hunt with revolvers and handgun calibur ammo.

I know you're looking for a non Desert Eagle semi-auto, but I think a Ruger Redhawk in the flavor of your choice from .41mag to .480rug would fit the multiple shot bill nicely. I think you can get them with a 5.5" or 6" bbl if you're looking for something with portability. And, as you probably know, they are DA/SA.

I just looked at corbon site. They list there 10mm data as almost the same as +p 45ACP (573 foot Lbs). Sounds like 10mm has been used with sucess but i think i would like a little more umph. I am not recoil sensitive and shoot the cannons pretty well. I thought corbon pushed the pressure envolope so i dont think many handloads would be hotter.
Anyone shot the 460 rowland or roland or something like that?

You only have a few choices it has to be .357 or bigger and a 5 1/2 inch barrel as you know.There is the coonan .357,the auto mag in 41,.357 also AMT also I have not checked but a 1911 .45 might just sneek in at 5 1/2 inchs .If you get a chance look at a 1911 let me know if it will work.They just changed the Regs and I am not sure0 -
You could try a Grizzly Mark I in .45 Win Mag. This would be my pick, but they aren't cheap. $1000+
The AMT Automag III fires the .30 Carbine round.
As for revolvers you could go with any of the bigger rounds:
.41 Mag
.44 Mag
.454 Casull
.480 Ruger
heck there's even a few 5 shot revovlers out there that fire the .45-70 round. One of my buddies has one of these, freaking scary.0 -

Yes they do, however they dont' produce them anymore. You'll have to buy a used one. They are fine pieces. I'll dig up some links for them.

They only make .50 BMG rifles now, but they still have some LAR Grizzly parts laying around. I had a nice email exchange with this lady "Linda Paulsen" <linda2@largrizzly.com> about getting a 8" .45 Win Mag barrel for my .357 Mag 8" Mark I, but no dice.

Mine is the longslide but in duo tone with the compensater. It is about the most accurate auto I have, very reliable, its sweet.0 -
Have you thought about a bolt action handgun? The Savage Striker holds 3 rounds and is chambered all the way up to 300WSM.
Very accurate and the bolt is on the left side for right haded pistol shooting. Mine is a .308[;)]
