Of those 2, use the Unique. Any load manual will give loads. However, I use Herco for cast loads, it burns a little slower than either of them. For full power loads, do to H110.

I use 2400. It is a great powder because it meters well, burns well, and fills the case at a level that is 'efficient' in primer ignition.

FER MY 44 MAG I USE WINCHESTER FER TOP LOADS AND FOR PLINKING LOADS YOU CAN NOT BEAT UNIQUE, ALL WITH CAST BULLETS, I HAVE USED 2400 AND IT IS DIRTY WONT EVER USE IT AGAIN.

I use Hodgdon H110 for full power hunting loads and silhouette loads. Some shooters I know are reporting good results with Vihtavuori Oy N110. Unique is a good all round choice for lead bullets.

I've been reloading for over 28 yrs and for the .44 prefer 2400. I use a 255 swc sgl gas check cast w/10% antim and it has produced outstanding results on boar when it hits bone...flesh wounds are just that.
With the heavier loads I prefer to use std primers as mag primers don't ignite all the powder.

Unique is my second choice, more for lighter loads and less extreme situations.

For moderate (plinking) loads you can't beat unique. For full power loads, 2400 is an old standby, works well but is FILTHY!! You are better off with H-110 or AA #9.
    Have fun, be careful!

    H110, 296, 2400, AA9...

    My personal favorite's 20gr. Vihta Vuori N105 w/ 180gr Hornady XTP's.

    H110 & 296 are excellent for full-power loads.

I think the unique powder is best for the lead bullets without a gas check. 2400 and ww296 or hodgdon h-110 is good for hotter loads. It all depends on what you use the pistol for. Above 950fps a straight lead bullet will lead the barrel considerably( hard cast included). Of course you could always follow the hard cast with a few jacketed to help keep the barrel a little cleaner. Why switch if it is working for you.

Sounds like I should stay with Unique until I want some stout jacketed bullet loads. Maybe Alliant will clean up 2400 as they did with Unique by the time I got through my 4 lb jar.[:D]

Unique and 2400 are very dirty unless used in high pressure loads.
Bullseye should be a lot cleaner and cheaper in light loads.
H110 is my favorite for full power loads.
