Browning #ing 'how-to'; '86 Carbine
Anyone kno' how to decipher the following # on a Browning Model 1886 hi-grade carbine? Turn receiver upside down and here 'tis: 99233 (on top) and under that is NY6C7. Your help appreciated mucho!!.......

On guns that were made in Japan, the serial number is first...then the year...followed by the product code. This gun was made in 1992 (NY=1992)

Rem. is 100% right. Also there should be a high grade rifle out there somewhere with matching #. Just made a few years eariler. It is my understanding that the high grades were mixed in the production run.
The rare Browning is the 1895 hign grade in 30/40 .

THANK YOU!, Rembrandt......looking forward to it. I'm in Browning Collectors Assoc. and knew that there is a code to it all but misplaced my reference. One more thing? This hi-grade I have does NOT have the '1 of 3000'stamped (or engraved)on top of the barrel like others I've seen. Maybe I need some time off, huh? Thanks, again. 0 -
Not sure exactly what you have...The 1886 Limited Edition Grade 1 Carbine is chambered in 45-70 Gov't. It has a saddle ring and is patterned after the Winchester Model 1886 Carbine, blued receiver, 22" round barrel, 8 shot full mag, crescent butt plate, open sights. Only 7000 were built 1992-1993.
Model 1886 Limited Edition High Grade Carbine, same as the grade 1, except it has checkered high grade walnut stock and forearm, greyed steel receiver with game scenes engraved, gold accents...only 3000 were built...."1 of 3000" is engraved on the barrel. These were all made in 1986. Right side had two Grizzly Bears one walking and one standing, the left side had two Whitetail bucks running surrounded by a game scene covering most of the side. All the animals were 24K gold plated.

Rembrandt, thank ye' for the heads up. I have the Br. rifle in 26" oct and hi-grade. But this critter is the Br. carbine 20" round barrel,hi-grade, and carb. buttstock.
