+P rounds in a Hi-point?

A friend of mine at work has a Hipoint 9mm and asked me to find him some extra mags. After not suceeding in selling him on buying a new gun instead, I checked the factory website. According to the factory, all Hipoint's are +P rated! Am I alone in thinking it a bit scary to put a +P in a blowback pistol like a hi-point. I've fired 275-300 ft/lb loads out of a Makarov but that is a heavy-slide hellacious recoil spring beastie. He had me take a look at his pistol to diagnose a feeding problem and it seemed sturdy but it has no hammer to act as a detent upon firing. It is PURELY a blowback setup, just weight and a fairly light recoil spring. Y'all have any experiences with these?[8D]

    Had a 380 that jammed and no matter what you did or ammo you used, I used 6 differnt kinds, it still jammed. Friend has a 9mm with the comp, we cleaned it real well when he bought it, oiled well, keeps it oiled, and he has yet to have a jam. We're both more accurite with it than my glock 26, but I's also 2x as big as the glock! I also have the 9mm rifle, great cheap plinker. All the guns are cheap made, I don't even use hot loads alone +p. I'm sure that some one here going to tell you it's ok. But also their not your friend, or you standing next to your friend as he shoots!

    Valid point 10/22. He wants me to try this and I tell him I don't like having a slide hit me in the face or having a case failure. I bet on of those would just explode![^]

    I did it, once. Lets just say that the cases were difficult to resize.......In the carbine, I think the bolt was opening before the pressure had dropped, almost all were buldged.

    HiPoint is considered a junk arm. Close to a jennings. Cutt the frame/receiver-send the serial no, BATF and advise rendered "unservicable." 101

    There's no reason to be shooting +P rounds if the barrel is 4 to 5 inches long even if your gun is up to the task. Regular 9mm is just fine.

    For all practical purposes, there should be no reason why the gun couldn't handle a +P. The issue with +Ps is that they wear out guns sooner. If you were using the gun for self-defense, the barrel was short, and you wanted to verify it would work with the particular +Ps, that's ok. It's the steady diet of +Ps that cause trouble.

    Personally I wouldn't recommend a cheap automatic for saving one's priceless existence. Then again, I'll take a cheap automatic over nothing at all.

    Hello, I have a 9mm Hi-Point and two of the .45 (consecutive numbers too) and I have yet to shoot the 9mm but the .45s work really well. I still don't recommend any +Ps in any Hi-Point but the 9mm rifle beat the Ruger DC9 in Gun Tests Magazine a while back so maybe it would be OK in that one, but not all the time. Extra mags are available through Hi-Point for $15.00 shipped (at least it is for my .45s), last I checked. They used to me made by BeeMiller but now they are made by Haskell Mfg. Inc. 585 East Blue Lick Road, Lima, OH 45801.

    Maybe I was a little vague, I don't own a Hi-Point. I don't want to shoot +P ammo in one, I was just horribly suprised that the factory gives those a +P rating. My friend has my full permission to do what he wants but I don't want to be standing behind or near him when he pulls the trigger.[:D][:D][:D]

    I have the 9mm carbine and I shoot +P+ in it with no problems.Let me correct that I have shot +P+.I have shot maybe 50RDS with just REM+P and mostly cheap ammo.It is built very strongly,and the Factory gives a life time warranty.I read in Police Magazine that 60 some odd PDs have adopted it for their cruiser carbine.

    Last I heard, MKS the company that makes Hi Point firearms, is capable of producing their carbines in box and shipped to the distributors at about $15 a pop.

    Maybe my math is a little rusty, but that seems like a heck of a lot of profit!!! Wish I owned a business goldmine like that, I could finally afford that ma'deuce I've been wanting.[:D]
