Proper disposal of non-working Sterling?
I have a Sterling .25, and it does not work. I do not want to put the time and money in trying to get it fixed. I suspect it is a piece of junk. Anyway, is there an acceptable (legal) method of disposing of an old handgun? I still have the all paperwork from the sale.

Even the new ones make excellant trolling rigs. Put some treble hooks on it a few feathers. If your line breakes no loss.

If you go to gun shows, there are usually guys there who deal in parts. You might see if one would buy it from you. The magazine, grips, spring, etc. have value...maybe not much, but some.
If you go to the shows in Texas, Jeff Lee from Lee's gun parts would be a buyer.

Every December our local Presbyterian Church has a "Gifts for Guns" program. $50 per gun until they run out of money. A local gunshop that usually does not buy guns offers $55 for any gun worth that much to keep them from being destroyed. Funny thing, last year a man saw a lady take a Colt Python in, he offered her $300 for it, but she insisted she wanted to turn it in. No Python was mentioned in the published list of guns destroyed......
If you are particularly anxious to get rid of the Sterling right away, I'm sure your local LE can advise you.

Gun Parts Corp. in New York will take guns like that. Send it to them, they will make a determination about it's value and send you a check. It won't be much, but it's something. You could also take it to the next gunshow in your area, or see if your local gunshop will let you post a notice about it. Young gunsmiths are always looking for guns to learn on without having to spend alot(and there are only so many Jennings to go around).

Thank you for the suggestions. I like the ones about using the Sterling as a fishing lure or boat anchor. There is a gun show coming to Pittsburgh in January, I will see if anyone there would be interested in it.
