Glock 23 and Glock 23c

I own a Glock 23 but had looked for a Glock 23c to no avail. Anyone have experience with the extended and ported barrels offered as an after market product?
Do they just drop in?
Do they make a difference?

  Off hand, I wasn't aware of a Glock 23c being offered. I know of the 24C which is a longslide, and I think the 22 is offered in a C configuration. I'd personally go with the standard 23, light recoil and accurate. The 40 isn't stout enough where I would want a compensator. On the little subcompact (G29 I think) 10mm bastard, that begs for a compensator! Just my two cents (or six pesos if you live in Phoenix too)[:D]

  I don't know if Glock offers a 23C, but I was able to do a side by side comparison with another like model. I have a G23 and went shooting with a friend who recently bought a Smith and WEsson SW40VE (I think that's right. I checked their website and it looks like the same one). Anyway, his is compensated. I honestly couldn't tell a difference. I liked the way the S&W fit my hand better, but I like the Glock trigger better. I've owned my G23 for over 10 years and cannot complain one bit. It is a great shooter. I also have a G27 which I carry a lot with my CHL. I think you made a great purchase.

  If you can't shoot a 23 well without a compensator, you should be using a 9mm.
  
  For some reason I find there's less noticeable recoil in the Glock 30 than the Glock 23. Probably the lower velocity of the .45 round.

  First, Glock does offer the G23 in a compensated model.
  
  Second, from most manufacturers the after market barrels, including extended barrels are drop-ins, just like the Glock OEM barrels are.
  
  Third, of course it makes a difference, whether or not you claim to feel it, or need it, or want it, or like it. Personally, I dont need it or want it, but then thats my choice.
  
  If you want to try it, I say go ahead, its your decision to make. One place to look is http://www.norecoil.com/, they have what are dubbed the "Fire Dragon" barrels, as well as a few others, including a drop-in barrel to convert the .40cal Glock to a 9mm.
  
  And, for future reference, if you should happen to be in the market for a Glock, and like the idea of having the option of a ported barrel, buy the compensated model if available, and a drop-in non ported barrel, this way you have both.

  All of the mid size are offered in a compensated version. These are also 'V' shaped exhaust ports. This will help you to not melt your front sight like happened on the older 24C with the vertical porting. Also expect a great increase in the noise.
  
  I have found that in low light if I stay focused on the front site the muzzle blast with the V porting does not give me the instant night blindness of the verical porting. Still bad just not as bad.

  I must agree with mballai. If you have a hard time with the 23 without the compensator, you may want to think about moving to the 19. I personally don't think that the compensator makes a huge difference. The 23 is a great gun though. If you can master it, it will be a great firearm for you. I work in LE and would love to carry the 23, but unfortunately, I must carry the 22, and it's just so much bigger than need be. The 23 is a great fit. Also, I personnaly feel that any compensated gun used for personal protection isn't very tactically sound. If you're in a low light shooting situation, you don't want that hugh flame flying out of your gun. First, if a normal muzzle flash wouldn't give away your position, the compensated flash definitely would, plus the compensated flash totally destroys whatever night vision you may have.
