Decent non-corrosive 8mm Mauser ammo?
Anybody here know a good, not-too-hideously-expensive source for decent non-corrosive 8mm Mauser ammo? Once I get that Yugo of mine scoped, I'm gonna wanna stock up on some fodder for it. And I'd prefer to avoid that corrosive Turkish stuff I see advertised in Shotgun News all the time....

As a sidenote: if you reload, you can use 30-06 brass to make 8mm Mauser (8x57) with. Just run it through the 8mm sizing die then trim it to length. Be sure to sufficiently lube the unsized brass as it is a little hard the first trip through the die.
I was doing this back in the 50's when 8mm ammo was only available as factory, and WWII surplus 30-06 ammo could be bought at 1-cent per round. Those were the days...

I've seen the Sellier and Bellot go for under $10 a box. Of course you could always reload, and the surplus isn't that bad though if you don't want it that is your business. One other source- many gunshows have handloaders who sell great volumes of reman. ammo cheap; I've had good luck with several calibers.

I got some 8mm NC from SOG earlier and after using quite a bit of it find it fairly accurate and apparently truly noncorrosive. I clean with hoppes #9 only and had no problems except about 1% duds.

The best military 8mm is the Portuguese. It is getting scarce. samcoglobal.com says they have it, 400rds for $119.60. Empire Arms has it but won't sell a case,only by the box, still it is inexpensive next to Sellier and Bellot. Empire is closed until Dec 18 but they are good people to deal with. 0 -

I just picked up at a gunshow some Igman 170gr, brass cased, boxer primed, noncorrosive made in Bosnia Herzegovina for $6.95 a 20 round box. I have'nt tried it yet but the folklore on the 8mm is that commercial loadings are low power because there are a lot of old 8mms floating around that can't handle higher pressures. AIM has it on their website- search Igman. The best answer is reloading. Midway had a sale on RCBS dies for $18.94 including the 8x57. I've got an unissued M48 that I'm going to shoot a lot before I decide whether to scope it. Regards, posh. 0 -
