Carry illeagal ? What's your opinoun
What can I say.I live in a state that has NO provision to carry,and unfortunatly it's a felony if your caught.This is a real problem for normal people who donot rob,kill and destroy.If anybody out there has has any opinoun on this matter Id like to know.
It's a SHAME we live in a country like this and we can't even protect ourselves (legally)in a sometimes violent society.

Many people think of firearms as the first line of defense but the best weapon at your disposal is your brain. Being alert and aware of what's going on around you is critical. I carry pepper spray on my key chain, a can in the vehicle and one near each door of the house. I have to agree with dano that carrying illegal is not acceptable unless you have a strong belief that you are in danger and no reasonable alternative is available. BUT it's better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

First, a few questions, what state?
Are you in a position, meaning do you have the drive, to lobby your state legislators for a change in law? Is there enough of a desire, a group that you belong to that could rally folks at the State Capitol to seek these changes?
Are there any pro rights legislators in the State House or Senate that would be willing to introduce such legislation, if it were drafted?
Now, on to your question, or more so a response, I carry everywhere I go, most times legally but when I am in Maryland, because they refuse to issue me an out of state carry permit, I an in violation of the law, willfully.

I know how you feel, I live in the same corrupt state. For Illinois, I occasionally carry an unloaded firearm in the trunk. Cased of course. I prefer a shotgun or revolver for what I consider condition negative 2. Cased Gun in trunk, unloaded, & ammo separate.
Revolvers & shotguns are much easier to load on the run than say a semi-auto pistol from condition negative 2. With shotguns, you can just throw one right in the chamber & you're ready to rock. Revolver is much the same easier to load that cylinder with 2 hands than the 3 hands needed to load a pistol magazine.
On my person I usually carry a "tactical folding" pocket knife, but may go with the pepper spray too.
When I travel outside of Illinois or really far inside, I'm usually armed to repell borders. [:D] Pistol Rifle shotgun.
I'm not sure of this but I don't believe that stripper clips are considered a loaded magazine. I know that some surplus ammo comes this way. Really easy way to load a mag if teh crap hits the fan.
If you get stopped by a LEO, don't volunteer what you have in your trunk, they have no right to look in your trunk w/o a search warrant. If they ask to search you car say No! We do not live Nazi Germany.
Edit- As far as carrying illegal, I have been tempted but know it's not woth loosing my guns over & freedoms over. The temptation keeps me from buying one of those little Keltec P32's. Too tempting to put that in my pocket. If I felt a specific threat, you better believe I'd carry!

Or do as Matt suggests and work to change the law. It will be an uphill battle in Il. but worth the fight if you must stay there. Are you sure that there is NO provision for CCW?

I know a couple guys that have their tan cards that allows them to carry for work but I believe that they are private investigators or security guards. I know that the the tan card only allows them to carry to and from work. Good luck trying to get one of those.

The operative words are 'otherwise law abiding'. If you carry illegally you are not. Up here you cannot defend yourself with a firearm priod. You are expected to call the cops. No matter what is happening or where you are. It's a sick place, but we have socialized medical care. Unless the care you need is dental care. Then you're on your own. 0 -
