38 special follow up
What's the concensus on a S & W Model 36 Chiefs Special w/ 3" Barell? When were they made? It looks like a early 70's Late 60's type to me. Anyone ever owned one? Are they known for any faults or great things. It doesn't even ring a faint bell to me.

The S&W Chief started production in 1950 and continues to today. They were available with 2", 3" and (on special order) 4" barrels. About 95% of them had the 2" barrel, so a 3" one is not too common.
Today, they're only available as a 2-incher.
In a small .38 Special snubby, they're about as good as you can get.
I have a Model 49.....same as the Chief, but with a shrouded hammer. It's a little sweetie. Compact, and with +Ps, hard hitting. A great CCW for those hot summer days (tee shirt & shorts) when my LW Commander would stick out like a sore thumb.0
