Who makes Winchester rifles now?
I was talking with a gun seller in his store the other day, and he told me that Browning has purchased Winchester. I knew that Winchester actually only makes ammo and has done so for some time now. But I thought that North American Repeating Arms made Winchester rifles. What's the scoop? Thanks,
Ken

Last I heard it was NA repeating arms also, but perhaps that is old news. Have you tried the Winchester or Browning web sites? 0 -
U.S. Repeating Arms Company is the maker of all Winchester brand rifles and shotguns.

...both Browning and Winchester are owned by the parent company Giat (SP?)... 0 -
SOME WINCHESTERS (USREAPEATING ARMS) ARE MADE IN JAPAN BY MIROKU. THE SUPERX2 SHOTGUNS ARE MADE BY BROWNING IN BELGIUM. THE MODEL 94'S ARE MADE IN USA. HARD TO KEEP TRACK.

The Herstal Group (Herstal, Belgium) is the parent company of Browning and U.S. Repeating Arms Company. Their website is:

Both the Browning and USRAC websites have some info as to where various models are actually produced. As duckhunter mentioned, overseas facilities come into play.
In these days of corporate globalization it's confusing to determine "who" made a particular model and "where" it was made, because it really boils down to who owns the trademarked name and to whom they sold the rights to use it.0
