Any body out there had experince changing the barrel on one of these jewels.got anew barrel from numerich arms with the screw in chokes having a tough time removing old barrel.

  Douglas, These Savage-Stevens shotguns: Model 30,67, and 77 have a "captive" barrel. After you unscrew the takedown knob, turn the barrel anti-clockwise until it hits its stop. You can then remove the barrel towards the front. If you've never disassembled your shotgun before and you've fired it a fair number of times, the barrel is likely to be more or less locked into place. You may need to tap it with a brass hammer to persuade it to leave its comfortable home in the receiver. Hit the lug that connects the takedown knob to the forend piece and the barrel should rotate and allow for disassembly.

  Mark the barrel is threaded much like a 98 mauser except very fine threads.extracter groove cut in front of threads.??????
