brass Remington Rolling Block question
Is this a legitimate action or is it for ceremonial/parade use? The whole thing doesn't look right, although everything seems to work ok. Only ID marks are the number 1895, a crown similar to the Husquvarna crown, and a tree stamped on the right side of receiver. I have searched throught several Rem Rolling block sites and can find no reference to a brass receiver anywhere. Would you rebarrel this to a blackpowder cartridge such as 40-65 or not? He wants to use it for BP Long Range Matches. I have SERIOUS reservations about this project, but I don't want to reject it out of hand for the fellow if it is safe. Any information or thoughts are appreciated.

Well, the Winchester 1866 (Yellowboy) had a brass frame....but, then again, the .44RF wasn't exactly a magnum cartridge!
Seriously....if it doubt, polish it up and hang it over the fireplace.0 -
Remington made the rolling block military rifle and carbine for many foreign countries but I doubt they made any receivers in brass. The receiver may be plated so try a magnet on the side. I certainly wouldn't use any brass frame for any long range cartridge, black powder or not.
