Can you tell me what Superposed means when referring to Brownings?

The name Superposed is a model of the Browning company for their over and under shotgun, around 1931. It was the grade of shotgun, with a rib on top. They have quite a few different grades and get more expensive as they go up!! I would think that the word Superposed is copyrighted in this country but I'm not a Browning expert! Check in the Blue book of gun values for a more complete listing of Browning models. Good luck.

The word itself comes from a European way of looking at the position (pose or posed)of the barrels.
Since one is above the other, the upper barrel is 'super'. hence superposed describes all 'over/unders'.
Browning company, a master at using names for models, also used it to describe the high quality models. So even if one were calling any o/u a 'superposed', it still was also describing a beautiful Browning.

We, in the 'New World' have come to use the term, 'stack barrel'.
