What is an old .22 Winchester Pump with an octagon barrel in good working order with no pits worth?

Please note that if this a really old Winchester pump .22 (the Model 1890), it will not fire standard .22RF. It requires .22 WRF which is no longer made. 0 -
It would probably be an 1890 and each gun was chambered for a specific cartridge. 22 short, 22 long, 22 long rifle (rare), or 22 WRF. The 22 WRF was made especially for this rifle. With all that your rifle will be marked on the barrel as to what 22 cartridge it is adapted for. 1890s are very desireable collecters, but there are 1000s of variables to pricing one. Without a lot more information it's worth between $100.00 and several thousand. I was going to say the 1890 was the only octagon barreled 22, but Winchester also barreled some early model 61s with octagon barrels.

wundudnee, I almost posted that if it was octagon it was an 1890 but wasn't sure and figured you'd see this post and straighten it out!! Did you get an email about that 1901 10 guage from ladonna? the model 61 octagon i believe does not have visible hammer but the 1890 would have a visible hammer

.22 WRF is currently produced and available. CCI, and WINCHESTER, make it, as well as most major ammunition manufacturers. perhaps you are confusing .22 WRF with the .22 EXTRA LONG, wich is no longer made and a;most impossible to find.

The 1906 or later called 06 were 20" round barrels. The first three years production of 06s were chambered 22 short only, then Winchester developed a cutoff for the shell lifter that enabled it to shoot shorts, longs or long rifles interchangeably. The 1890s had a 24" octagonal barrel and were caliber specific for the entire production run. At the end of production about the late 30s, there were a few parts cleanup 1890s that were barreled with round model 62 barrels. These round barreled 1890s were roll marked with all the proper 1890 information.
The 1906s and the 1890s used most of the same parts except the stocks on the 06s were gumwood instead of the 1890s walnut with the metal butt plate. The rate of twist was also different on the 06s 20" barrels.
The 1906s immediately out sold the 1890s because of cartridge interchangeability and price. The first 1906s were only $10.50 where the 1890s were a whopping $17.50

I saw her post on the 1901 and it does sound like a nice one. It's out of my line but I do know that there is a real interest in them now with the cowboy shooters. Especially the 1901s over the 1887s because of the better steel barrels. A person would want to find someone really in the know to value a special gun like that.

Mr.Mike....I haven't seen any WRF around in a long time, so I was taking the word of the latest edition of COTW that the last batch was made in 1995.

I just went through the same thing about a month ago. Apart from more info on the pump 22 - 1890/06/61/62 - I think the 61 did not have the visible hammer but the 62 did(62 also came back with the octagonal). The 1890's were in 22lr after 04(ish),rare. The 06's were round barreled. I've seen .22WRF at a show made by Rem., and now CCI and WIN are making it.
