Swedish 6.5x55 Mauser Questions
I heard so many good things about this rifle that I'm now considering purchasing a sporterized model. What is it about this rifle that makes it so exceptional? The 6.5x55 is comparable to what American cartridge - velocity and energywise? Are there any reloading problems I should be aware of? The rifle will have a cut down military barrel (24") - is there anything special I should be aware of or look for concerning the military barrel and action. The seller has installed a new safety and replaced the straight bolt with a standard bolt. He also installed a Timney trigger - though I have no idea what a Timney trigger is. He is also putting on a composite stock. He's asking around $300 for the rifle. Any information you can give me will be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

The Timney trigger allows you to make pricise adjustments. The 6.6x55 wom the Olympics in the late 1930's it has a great B.C. that gives it the edge. My two cents!

I'm quoting a friend of mine (God rest his soul) who loved to tinker with and sporterize Mausers, and the 6.5 was his hands-down favorite. The 6.5 is roughly equivalant to a .264, and he considered it to be the most inherently accurate cartridge ever developed because of it's ballistic coefficient (don't ask me!). If any event, he built several and always asked me to sight them in, and I was always surprised at the accuracy, even with used military barrels. The cartridge is more than enough for deer-sized game, and factory loads are again readily available. If your gun has a safety job and a Timney trigger, you are getting one h*** of a deal! The builder has a LOT more than that in it. All this coming from a dyed-in-the-wool 25-06 fan!!! 0 -
Effective: The Swedes use them on their native variety of moose. Accurate: As stated above. Recoil: Very pleasant to shoot--recoil about like a .30-30. '96 Mauser: Good workmanship, plenty strong enough for the 6.5x55mm. Ammo: Loaded by U.S. companies, reloadable. Plus custom features? What's not to like here? 0 -
6.5X55 and the Rem.260 are almost the same ballistically.It's a great cartridge. I just rebarreled a Left Hand Savage Mod 110 to 6.5X55.I also have a Military Sporter and a left hand Sako.

The boys who shoot military long range love the Swede. These are competitions at 500 yards shooting at a 16 inch circle. Original military rifles only, no scopes. This imitates combat shooting. These competitions are often won by Swede Mausers, I never heard of an 8mm winning. The Swede is considered by many to be the most accurate Mauser, as well as to have the best workmanship. Says more polar bears have been killed by the little Swede than by any other cartridge in the world. 0 -

The Swedish Mauser action is smooth, strong, and very well made. The 6x55mm cartridge is one of the most inherently accurate ever devised.
With the modifications you mentioned, it's well worth $300.0
