45 super?
What is the 45 Super?I dont find any information in any load books that I have.Also checked a couple of powder websites but nothin there.Thanks for any replys.

I was loading a bunch of 45's today and came across a couple 45 Super cases from Starline mixed in with my 45 ACP brass. They appear identical, can I load my 45ACP rounds using the 45 Super brass?

The theory behind this was that the same gun could fire both 45ACP and 45 Super's rather interchangably with perhaps only a recoil spring change required. I would stick with the regular 45 ACP or step up to a 45 WinMag if you want overpenetration and sore wrists. Plus, most 45 pistol designs have a large feed ramp and little case support which isn't a problem with the low pressure 45ACP loads, the primary reason for the 45 Super brass is to provide extra brass to support a lack of steel around the feed ramp. Sounds like there will be case failures in the 45 Supers future especially when the cases get reloaded alot. 0 -
This is becoming popular with the bowling pin shooters in my area. Really knocks the crap out of the pins. As above, the brass is different than 45acp and is therefore more expensive. Should NOT be fired in standard 45. The gun must be made for 45 Super. I have been told that the 45 super brass can be reloaded as standard 45acp and will work. Can't swear to this.

They have loading data. You can work up from their maxes, if you have a good pistol- the data is extremely conservative.
The primary changes necessary are not major. Sprinco makes an excellent recoil reducer for .45 Super- with it, you can use your standard recoil spring. Not necessary, but helpful: extractor, ejector, firing pin (I've been using Wilson "bulletproof" parts- they work well), stiffer firing-pin spring.0 -
Oops, excuse me. I just realized I may have steered you in an obtuse direction. I just visited Triton's site, realized there have been changes. They were sued a few months ago for stealing the "45 Super" name, and are now calling their version the "450 SMC". Same thing, except that they use a small rifle primer (good idea, anyway-better ignition), and recommend using a heavier recoil spring. 32 pounds is the generally accepted spring weight, but the Sprinco recoil reducer works well anyway. 0
