I received a brand new Winchester model 70 Sporter LT in a 30-06 last year for Christmas and so far it is great. I installed a Hunter brand leather sling on it and a Bushnell Sportview scope. What cought my attention is the Pre-64 massive claw extractor.

The a-bolt has a great bolt throw angle for quick follow up shots and is smooth as can be. The model 70 is a strong and very workable action if you ever plan to rebarrel it to another caliber. Triggers are also available for the model 70 which are completely adjustable. The a-bolt seems to be an action that a lot of gunsmiths don't like to rebarrel or true due to it's modular design, but I have one which I will keep even though all my actions are 700 remingtons. Just consider what you are going to use the rifle for over the next 10-20yrs and decide if you need an action that can be trued and rebarreled easily or if the short throw, smooth a-bolt action would suit you better for just plain hunting and non-customizing. You will be happy with both rifles, they are great quality products.

I suggest you handle both and shoot them both if possible, even if the caliber isn't what you are after, you can still get the feel for them.

    I'm a man,....but I can change,.....If I have to,......I guess.

I like the finish on Winchester wood a lot better than Browning. Just a personal preference.

I have to side for the Ruger or Remington as they are American made. Tooo many jobs lost to foriegn coompanies. My home town is being torn apart because of it.[}:)]

I have an A-bolt Stainless Stalker (w/ Boss) in 300WinMag. Factory loads give me about 1 to 1.5 MOA, all my handloads are well under 1MOA. I can't believe how well this thing shoots for me.

My 2 cents, for whatever it's worth. Maybe I'm too late.

Remington is the best choice of the two.
