SW J frame/Square or round butt?
Looking for a nice set of wooden grips for the wifes SW640.
I know it has a J frame, but how do I tell if it is a square butt or round butt?

Ron, I believe the 640 is a round butt.
As for telling the difference, on some models, with grips that don't cover the bottom of the grip frame, you can tell if the grip frame is rounded or square. If the bottom is covered by the grips, take them off and check the bottom of the grip frame for rounded or square butt.
The left one is a K frame square butt, the right one is a J round butt.

Try www.getgrip.com. Thats the Hogue grip site. They do make a good wood grip for your 640. John

Hey thanks big time. That picture somes it up. I have ALL square butt frame revolvers...K,L, N. I do believe this SW640 is the only round butt we have, just wanted to make sure before ordering grips.0 -
