getting a little action
Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can get a Rem 700 short action in stainless steel for a rifle building project? I have been told by several gun dealers that Remington no longer sells actions and I don't want to rebarrel any of my current rifles.

Keep your eye out on this site, sometimes you can buy rifles reasonable and have the action rebarreled. I would imagine that in auction sites and papers like them one will turn up soon.

Brownells sells barreled actions (700rem), however all they sell is blued. What I did several weeks ago was to register on the gunbroker auctions, and bid on a NIB stainless 700bdl in 338 ultra mag and got it for $105 less than my cost (wholesale). There are deals out there, you just have to be patient and bid correctly. I am guessing due to the light weight of the rifle I purchased, that no-one wanted it due to the recoil that caliber would no doubt produce. Now what I am going to do, is pull the brand new SS barrel and synthetic stock, and resell them. VOILA....I have a new stainless action. Try it that way.
