Winchester USA Ammo

    JW,

I love the stuff. It is cheap. And I think it shoots real good. But alot of folks say I don't know what good is. I don't try to hold a .250" group at 150-200 yds. and junk like that. If can hold five shots in a spot about an 1" diameter at 100 yds with iron sights 9 times out of 10 then I'll use the heck out of the ammo. I shoot it in my AR a lot. The brass is pretty nice for reloading to. That where my brass comes from. I can order 100 pcs. of brass for only a few bucks less than I can shoot a hundred round of that Winchester. I get the fun of shooting it plus the brass!!! I have popped a couple of coyotes with it. But it is not a hollow point. If entrance and exit wound sizes are your thing then don't use it. But it will drop a coyote.

I'm like you, not into putting a bullet through the same hole every time I shoot, but its nice when I get lucky and do. I shoot a AR15 and have a few high cap. clips which can get expensive when your shooting top of the line ammo. I just dont want to ruin my gun with the cheapest ammo out there. I think I'll go ahead and buy it. Thanks for the info.

The Winchester USA ammo I use is FMJ. In some states you must use softpoint ammo for hunting.

Not a bad deal at $4 a box per 20. I have seen it lower, but not by much, maybe $3.25 or $3.50 a box.

I like the Winnie White Box,(WWB), that 55Gr FMJ is about the same load as the M196 round which was the standard M-16 round for years. Winchester was, and is, a big producer of ammo for the military, so, that ammo may well have been manufactured on the same machinery that that US military contract stuff was made on.

    Here's my big BUT-

Try a box or two first, some of the WWB does not have enough powder/gas to cycle the bolt on certian .223/5.56 rifles, such as my 20" Heavy Bbl Bushmaster. This ammo is Winchester product code Q3131.

If the WWB you are buying is marked "Made in Isreal" on the back, near the bottom right corner, you're in good shape. That's good stuff, and I never had it fail me. It's product number is Q3131A, although I don't think the boxes are marked "USA".

I agree with Matt45,winchester Q3131 will not cycle in my bushmaster either,it made a single shot rifle out of it.

I got some of the usa 45 hp out today and ran it thru a 16" hvy brl ar clone. The scope was the limiting factor but groups were well under 1" from the bench.

I use it all the time in my AR. Thats just about the norm for a case $200. Every now and then I've gotten it for $175. Never any problems with it.

I do a lot of reloading and working on guns and that Winchester USA 45 grain load is as good as I've found in one of my xp's in 223!!! So far I haven't found any load even using match bullets that it likes better! Cheap too! 11.95 for 40. Deadly on varmints! And another thing: lovetohunt, maybe you should choose your words better when replying on here "...250" @ 150-200yards and JUNK LIKE THAT!!! I don't shoot AR's or those type rifles and don't have any desire for them but I'm not going to post and call them "JUNK LIKE THAT"!!! GHD
