Rem 788
I was told that when Remington 788s were being manufactured that some people were redoing some of them and replaced some of the bluing parts such as the bolt and trigger gaurd with nickel. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I have an early 70's model 788 it's had alot of shots fired trought it. Once in awhile it will not fire when you pull the trigger. It seems to be getting worse lately. Any thoughts on the problem would be helpful. 0 -
Fireing Pin? Check to see if primer is indented when there is a failure. Wait a few minuts just in case there is a delay in primer. Best, Robert

My suggestion, if you haven't already done so, is to pull the bolt and talk to your local 'smith, have it taken apart and checked over. My neck of the woods that service runs $25 you might get it cheaper. I
had a Rem 700 that was absolutely rusty inside the bolt housing, that
might be your problem.0 -
TAKE IT TO YOUR LOCAL GUNSMITH FOR A GOOD CLEANING FIRST (TRIGGER ASSY AND BOLT) AFTER 30 YEARS YOU OWE IT THAT MUCH. 0
