If you can give me the serial number, I can get you in the ballpark on the production date.

Are you sure your's is .44-40 and not .44 S&W Russian? Whether you'd want to fire it or not depends on condition, but if the condition is on the higher end of the scale, your gun might be too valuable to risk shooting.... even with black powder!

Accurate Arms advertises their XMP-5744 as being a good smokeless powder for many black powder loadings where other types of smokeless powder would generate too much chamber pressure to be safe in the older guns. Check out their advice on XMP-5744 HERE: http://accuratearms.com/data/5744.html

Feel free to email me with the serial number if you'd prefer not to post it here. I'll be happy to share the info I have on your revolver.

I am sorry, I thought I included the serial no. I need to pay more attention. It is 114xx. It is a .44-40 as I have loaded Pyrodex rounds with 200 gr. .427" lead bullets and shot it quite a bit. It has a nickel finish that is about 50%. It is in good mechanical condition, but is a shooter.
