Nazi p-38 info and value(?) needed
Help! I have in my possession a p-38 9mm. The serial number on the receiver in front of the safety is 8620 i. The serial number above the front of the trigger guard is followed by a small SS with what I think is a stylized eagle or a depiction of an eagle with outstretched wings right on top. The other side of the receiver is stamped with the same SS marking, followed by a small swastika in a circle with the same kind of eagle marking right on top of it, followed again by the same SS marking. The finish looks very even with no spots worn right down except for some holster wear or any scratches on it. It has brown plastic grips. Also I don't have the magazine for it or the holster. The person I got the gun from says he sold the holster 5 years ago on Ebay for $1200 dollars. A local shop has offered to buy the gun off of me but I would like to know the approximate value before I take it in. Any help would be very appreciated.

They are not SS markings, they are Waffenapts. Just proof marks. Depending on the manufacture they could be Waa359 for Walther, Waa163 for Mauser. I forget what Spreewerks code is, Waa77 I think. For starters on the value, look on the left side of the slide and there should be a two or three letter (or three number) code for the maker right above a two digit year code, i.e., byf 42, ac 44, etc. Must have this to approach a value. 0 -

Thanks for the info guys. I feel kinda stupid for not looking for a P-38 forum in the first place now. 0
