30 40 Krag
I have agun that is a 30 / 40 Krag New england westinghouse..Also has on it CO , NY that is all that is readable...Can not find out anything on it..Any information appreciated email me at

reciently aquired a 1889 krag 30 40 mechanicly seems to be in good shape the problem is the stock which has allready been sporterized must have taken a pretty good fall and is done. I have seen others sporterized with stocks other than original. does anyone know what other kind of stock would make for a nice job or were I can aquire a sporterized stock. I have no intentions of restoring it back to original. thanks for any advise. side note I saw a stock for sale that was advertised as an 1896 krag stock are there any differences in the two. 0 -
Westinghouse made 1891 Mosin Nagant rifles for the Czar--many were never delivered because of the Russian Revolution. Thereafter many were sold in the U.S. at very low prices, but until lately the original 7.62x54Rmm cartridge has never been plentiful. Consequently, many were converted to "close to" American cartridges, among them .30-06 (most of these are unsafe to use) and .30-40. My best guess is that you have an 1891 Mosin Nagant converted to .30-40. Find a picture of the Nagant and compare it with what you have. If this is the case the value of the rifle is under $100. 0
