J Stevens 26.5 crackshot
I have a what I think is a 26.5 crackshot. Markings are as follows:
top of barrel: 44 shot left side of receiver: J Stevens Arms & Tool Co Chicopee Falls, Mass. USA Right side of receiver: TRADE MARK STEVENS Reg US Pat Off & Fgn Bottom of receiver near trigger is a Z 260. The barrel is a smooth bore, very shiny, spotless. All letters/markings very crisp & clear. No rust or pitting.
I would like to know anything there is to know about this firearm (age, value, type of ammo, availability of ammo-can I shoot modern 410 2 1/2" shotshells?).
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The Stevens Crackshot Model 26 1/2 and the Model 26 are virtually the same, except fot the Barrel of the 26.5 being a SMOOTH BORE for shooting 410, 2 1/2" Shot Shells....If you can locate some Two and a Half Shells it should be checked out by a competent Gunsmith before firing...Value of the 26.5 is about 10% less than the Model 26...The 26 is worth $150.00 in Good Condition ........
