Springfield Model 15
I have a J. Stevens Arms .22 bolt action single shot rifle. Can someone tell me where the serial number is for I can not find one.
Second question is how much is it worth. The only problem is some minor checking on the butt of stock. Would it be cost effective to repair that and would getting the stock replaced detract from its value.

I just got a springfield model 15, and i would like to know the value of the gun and if mounting a scope on it would be a good idea. 0 -
The Springfield Model 15 was an inexpensive single shot .22 built by J. Stevens in Chicopee, MA in the '40's and '50's.
Value in VG to Excellent condition is $50-75.
It's a fun little plinker, and has sentimental value to me, because a Model 15 was my first rifle....got it for Christmas when I was 13.
I killed a lot of Campbell's Tomato Soup cans with that little baby. However, it's probably not worth putting a scope on.0 -
well i would of thought it would of had a little be more value then that. o well. what would be a great .22 for target shooting. I'm on my high schools rifle team, and i'd like a great accurate rifle as good as our FWB 603's. i would have to be cheap though 0 -
the cheapest match level "out of the box" new .22 target rifle is the marlin model 2000l. it is not as good as an FWB. it is adequate for entry level compatition. anshutz also has some entry level guns, but when you add sights, and the other nessesaties it gets pricy.
if you can find a used winchester model 52 in decent shape for under $700.00 you should not pass it up(provided you have the funds). i started out with one, and often won out over competitors with newer, pricier guns. any older BSA or vickers would be servicable.
what NRA discipline/compatition would you be in??? be more specific and i can give some better answers. the difference between 4-pos. international free rifle and NRA light rifle are vast. they call for different style/priced guns. what is your classification(unclassified junior or higher)???
a careful search of gun shows, and some cash in hand can often get you the deal you are looking for. best regards, mike.

If your Springfield is, indeed, a Model 15, it's a single-shot, pull-hammer, entry level rifle. A good choice as a boy's first .22, and a nice backyard plinker, but no target rifle.
