    Like the man said...its a KRAG...Probably in 30-40 Caliber and is a Side Loader...Thats an External Magazine that you open with your thumb and then load the Cartridges one at a time...and this is on the Right Side of the Rifle's reciever....then you shut the external Door and Load the chamber by working the bolt..

    Yes, Krags have one of the most interesting magazines in all rifle-dom. The rounds are loaded on the right, curl under the chamber, and then are loaded into it from the left. Nonetheless, it's a good weapon and served our Army well, before WWI. I have seen many sporterized and scoped for use as hunting rifles, even today, more than 100 years after production.
