22 Hornet Info Needed
I am wondering if I can use any of the .224 bullets for reloading or does it have to be the 22 hornet bullets only.I would really like to use Ballistic tip 35's.Smeone told me you can,but I need a second opinion.Please help.Thanks

If your rifle is of newer manufacture it probably has a .224 barrel. If it is an older vintage gun say a Win Mod 43 in 22 Hornet it may possibly have a .223 barrel. Have it checked by a gunsmith or check it yourself. More than likely you will be able to use the 224's. GHD 0 -

It looks like you're asking if you should only use those designated as "Hornet" bullets, not as bore size. I think the only reason Sierra and some others call them Hornet is because of the recommended weight- 40 or 45 grains and they're made with thinner jackets to open up at lower velocities than that of 22-250, etc. That's what Sierra told me when I used to buy them over the counter here in CA.
I've tried 224's in Win. 43's and 23D and 340/342 Savage and can't tell the difference, they shoot to the same spot and don't seem to build up pressure. I'll shoot the 223's till I run out of them or they stop making them.
I still think if there was any danger in using 224's in 223 barrels they would note a warning on the box. Same thing with .452 bullets in .451 bores.0 -
I have used a variety of .22 cal. (.224 dia.) bullets in my TC Contender .22 hornet. I also have experimented with seating the bullet further out than the specified OAL. As long as the action closes safely I get very good accuracy. This probably will not work in firearms that feed from a magazine or tube. 0
