In excellent cond it should bring about $325.00 with the DA version bringing about $285.00. Like Saxon said, its pretty much a collector Item as shooters prefer DA.
Years ago, when LAPD carried model 14's , the Dept modified the guns to shoot DA only, just the opposite of the SA version. They did not want the ofcrs cocking their revolvers and holding a crook a gun point that way. I believe a few people were unintentionally shot prior to the change, as it only takes a fraction of the pressure on the trigger to fire the gun when cocked versus double action.

The SA only was the competition bullseye target shooting version where the shooters had NO need for double action and it was thought by those shooting these events a SA only trigger could be made far better and crip/clean than the DA/SA. Such guns almost exclusvely got a diet of conventional wadcutters and thus weren't beated to death with "combat" loads or heavyier loads. With the box it sure helps the value. LA used the K-38 for years with a 6 inch bbl. You often seem them in old re-runs of 1-Adam-12 in a clamshell holster.
It was only in the last few years they ordered their S&W revolvers in DA only mode and it didn't drop the AD rate.
The S&W could put every shot in a X ring on a 25 and 50 yard slow fire pistol target. Look at one and see how small that is.
