owen, I owned a similar Weatherby for several years. Collectors refer to these as Weatherby Southgates. There will be a date of manufacture stamped in the receiver below the woodline. As I recall mine was 1953. Some had chrome lined barrels made by Timken. They came in various grades. Mine was the basic grade and the carving suggests yours is a better one. I have a 1950's era Gun Digest with an article about the manufacture of these early Weatherby's. Send me your mailing address and I will photocopy it for you. hsgarner@tds.net 0 -
I can remember those highly carved stocks on old Weatherbys, probably in the 50's. Always wanted one but just wasn't meant to be. You have a real keeper there although if I remember correctly the 257 was not the cartrage used by Roy Weatherby when he shot that tree down in order to prove the effectiveness of his magnum rounds.

Hello since I have some weatherby experts here I have a question
I have three boxes of 257 weatherby magnum ammo 100 grain, 117, and 87, grain all softpoints. They all are yellow boxes with a tiger on the boxes, I believe it's older ammo. Does anyone know what it's worth a box? Thankyou Beltfed ghubbar@bellsouth.net0 -
owen_bld,
Although not a Weatherby collector, and many are-I knew Roy while he had his shop in Sought Gate. Very nice man. There are a great deal of
collector's out there. Contact the Weatherby Collectors Association.
They have a site. You will be surprised at the prices paid by collectors. I doubt that anyone on this forum, perhaps incorrect, would pay the going rate. As many have responded, suggest you contact
them. 1010 -
I do not have this one in my collection. Please do not sell without giving me a chance to bid. Thanks
P.S. I will watch here for your reply.0
