M.A.S. Stands for Manufacture Nationale d'Armes de St-Etinne. While not necessarily the leader, MAS has been one of the most important factories for the production of French small arms. The St. Etinne region is in the heart of an area rich in iron ore and coal- needed items for producing firearms. Which model MAS rifle do you have? I assure you that there was more than one rifle type produced in the past 50 years! Is it a M36 (bolt action), M44, M49, M49-56?
