Would you mind explaining how to make your own bore guides?I found your post very interesting,but I didnt fully understand how to do it?

It's easy to draw, but hard to discribe.
For a muzzle unit, find a piece of nylon or delrin round stock (about 3/4" dia). Measure the diameter of the barrel (last 3/4") and lathe bore a hole 1" deep and the size (OD) of the muzzle (less if the sight is in the way, or you can notch for the sight). Centered in that hole, drill further in with the drill bit that,s closest to your bore size (5/16 for a 30cal, 1/4 for a 25cal, 15/64 for a .223, etc) to a total depth of about 3". Part (cut) off the guide at around 2 3/4 to 3" total length. All dimentions can be adjusted to suit.

They list 7 diferent ones, including M1 Carbine, Mini-14 and Mini-30.
As far as using a cartridge case as a breach end guide, just drill out the primer pocket. Soldering a handle (1/8" rod) to the shell head makes it easier to insert and hang onto.
When I went thru all this stuff, bore guides and one piece rods were not readly available, and places like Midway didn't exist (we had the local hardware, and the Herters catalog for dreaming). We often made them as high school shop projects. Today I'd cough up the 10 bucks and buy them.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0
