LC SMITH DOUBLE BARREL 12 G. SHOTGUN 1875 to1878

My son inherited a 50 gage rifle & two double barrel 12 gage shotguns
one of which was LC Smith maker of Baker gun, Syracuse NY, damacus steel, serial # 9496, Aug 31 1875 / Jauy 29 1878. Since he's not a gun
collector would appreciate obtaining info on this shotgun & it's value
We serched the net & found info only from 1895 on LC Smith.

  Gauge is a measure of lead balls per pound and I suppose a rifle could be classified as such. Most often, though, rifles are measured by caliber. So... Is the rifle a 50 caliber or does it have a rather small bore?
  
  As to the scatterguns, you really don't have what we know as L.C.Smith's. Before there was such a thing Mr. Smith and Mr. Baker got together in Syracuse and produced guns. Generally these are considered early Bakers and not Smith's, but the two were partners of sorts and I really don't know where to draw the line.
  
  Your guns... You say nothing of condition or quality so there's little to go on. In average used condition these guns aren't considered much of a find. They shouldn't be used with modern loads and they're more or less a transition piece to the Baker's and Smith's that followed shortly thereafter. Value will be somewhat less than a similar early Baker or Smith.
