That's near the price they went for in the early 1970's so adjusted for inflation it's a good deal. They were a good solid shotgun but sold in limited numbers because you could buy a Winchester 101 for about the same money and a Browning Superposed for $100 more. That sounds like a very good deal for a gun that would cost well
    over $1000 to make now.

    Hello "rballi"

Just got back inside from taking the female German wire-haired pointer out for a potty-break. It is cold out there ---- down in the 20's in north Florida. It will take me a few minutes to warm back up and get sleepy again.

I can't speak to the 440 O/U as I have never owned one. I do have the 444 Deluxe in 12 gauge. If she were in 20 gauge, she would be my favorite O/U. She comes to my shoulder like lightening even though she is a fairly heavy O/U and when she stops the only thing I see is rear bead.

She has 2-3/4 inch chambers, so I make the assumption that the 440 is that way also, but you know about assumptions. The 440 has extractors and not ejectors like the 444, if that doesn't bother you, I think she would be a good buy for the money.

If you just have to have 3 inch chambers and an economical price, I would suggest a "Zoli". They rattle like a freight-wagon, which scares many people away from them, but they will go "bang" every time you pull the trigger if you have shells in the chambers. I have one I use for turkey and waterfowl.

    Best Regard

The gun fits me good, I pointed out some cosmetic blemishes and got the gun for $310 out the door. I think it will clean up pretty nice. This might be my "beater" O/U. It needs a front sight bead, there are some minor freckles on the reciever that should clean up with steel wool & oil, and the gloss on the stock has some handling marks. I'll probably use it this quail season then knock the seen off the stock.
