dan, before getting rid of your 30.06, consider installing a fiberglass/composit stock. The wood or plastic stocks offer little in reducing felt recoil. Not wanting the recoil of a 30.06, I bought a Rem 700 adl in 308 and replaced the factory stock with a Bell&Carlson stock (~$150). The negative angle of the stock,larger butt pad, and fiber material absorbe alot of the recoil. I beaded the action and floated the barrel. Now even the .308 recoil feels that of a .243. I may purchase a 30.06 for its versatility and do the same with it.
