MAUSER????

ELDORADO
I have just aquired a Mauser type in .308 cal that has me wondering just what it is. The receiver has a British proof crown, the barrel says "Foremost model 6600", Firearms company; ENGLAND. The trigger group is also marked, "Firearms company,ENGLAND. It is in a very unusual gray laminated stock that has slots cut through the forearm area indicating they were cut there for cooling purposes. It has a Mauser style bolt that appears to be either nickle or chrome plated, and some sort of new style safety located on the right rear of the receiver that pushes forward or back. The bolt release is that of a standard Mauser configuration. The only serial number on it anywhere is on the right side of the receiver and it begins with the letter P.
I only have one opinion so far and his guess is that it might be a Mauser model 66A. Any help in identifing this would be appreciated.

    im no expert but it sounds more like an enfield to me.
    does it have a steel band around the stock behind the trigger guard?

    The pictures would help but I think this is one of the commercial built or rebuilt mausers from England. There have been several of these of variable quality imported in the past.

    It is not an Enfield..As I said in first post, it is a Mauser type. Thanks anyway.
