Which low power variable scope?
I am looking to buy a new low power variable 1 3/4 x 5 or something similar.I want exceptional clarity,dependability,and light gathering.I can't afford 1000 dollars but don't want a cheepie either.Am considering a Zeiss but know nothing about them.Any ideas??

Leupold, Zeiss or Schmidt & Bender are all good.
Choose a scope with 30mm maintube, not just 1" maintube.
Schmidt & Bender has several good scopes with just 1.5-6*42 and 30mm maintube. These ones aren't 1000$, more like 5-700 though.
Also, give the scope a good set of steel rings.!!

I recommend the Schmidt & Bender. They are hand made in Germany and from what I have found, the people who live hunting (Col. Boddington, John Lazzeroni & others) use them on their personal rifles. Alex Roy of eurooptics.com sells them cheaper than anyone in the country. His number is 570 220 3159 and he saved me hundreds on mine.

Bushnell makes a 1.5-6x36 Elite 4200 for around three to four hundred dollars. The 4200 series is the brightest scope I've ever seen. It has a good warrenty and some nice features. Before you buy anything check this out. They also make a 2-7x32 in there 3200 series thats just a couple hundred bucks. Its a nice one two. If you buy one and don't like it Bushnell has a policy that will buy the scope back from you withhin a year if your not satisfied. Can't go wrong there. 0 -
I have a Leupold 1.5x5, 1.75x6 and the 1x4 and all 3 of them are very fine scopes.
