AR Types: 16" Mid-Length Setups
I asked Armalite over the weekend whether they offer their 16" mid-length upper in a pre-ban configuration. They do not. The only other assember(?) of the mid-length setup that I'm aware of is Rock River Arms, and they do offer a pre-ban flat-top configuration (what I want). I know that Armalite is suing RRA right now, but I don't know what Armalite's claim is or whether it has anything to do w/ mid-length proprietary issues.
My questions: 1) Does anyone other than Armalite and RRA offer a mid-length setup, and pre-ban to boot? 2) RRA's midlength setup is build on a Wilson 16" heavy barrel, and can be obtained w/ chrome lining. Are Wilson barrels any good? 3) Anyone know whether the mid-length dimension is the same for Armalite and RRA? I've heard that Armalite's midlength dimension is 11/16 too long for proper bayonet mounting. Anyone know whether this is true? 4) Can anyone speak to the quality of RRA's uppers, and products in general? I could probably buy just a pre-ban barrel/tube/sight assembly from them and build it on an Armalite upper w/ other Armalite fittings, assuming the dimensions match. RRA's web site doesn't have a contact feature, or I would ask them several of these questions directly. (I'm too damn cheap to pick up a telephone.)

I check the ar15 . com board from time to time and people have stated that there was some issues when RRA started first making components and those not being mil spec. Sounds like they have taken care of the quality assurance issues for some time now. Over on that board there is a guy by the handle of Pete-in-NH who usually has some good prices on RRA stuff.
