Ammo of interest?
I just found a crate of 7.62x39 at a friend's house. It is made in china. It's in a wooden crate with 2 sardine cans inside each containing 720 rounds. The rounds are packaged in brown paper in groups of 20. The ammo is copper(?) colored. All the writing is in Chinese. It's probably not too interesting, but I was interested in its background all the same.

Standard surplus ammo for the AK & SKS type rifles. Be careful opening the cans, the edges can cut you badly. 0 -
This is probably steel core ammo that was everywhere in the 80's. The ATF declared it illegal to sell as well as import. I sold many cases of it for well under $100 each. Good ammo, corrosive but great for long term storage. 0 -
As mentioned by Gruntled, nothing out of the ordinary. There were MILLIONS of rounds of this ammo imported during the heyday of the 1980's. The case you described often sold for under $75 at gunshows and had a declared value with US Customs of about $55- according to friends I have who imported this stuff way back when. If it is "copper colored" it means that it is copper-washed, steel cased-check it with a magnet- and these cases are tough on some extractors in rifles other than AK and SKS types. Chances are the bullets are steel jacketed as well and they can be hard on gun barrels. The ammo is also going to be corrosive so keep these things in mind. And PLEASE listen to Gruntled: Those steel cans can slice your hands wide open, so wear leather gloves when you open the can. Don't ask me how I learned this little fact. I had a couple cases of this ammo, a few years ago, still have one of the big spam cans that I have not opened yet. It came on SKS stripper clips, and is corrosive for sure.
I lost my left arm opening one of the last cans, har har just kidding.
The stuff shoots fine, but clean your gun real good after shooting it.0 -
