The "C" prefix or suffix does indicate a specimen made for commercial sale, but "Government Model" is correct with or without the "C"; so your pistol is O.K. Is there a better way to explain this.....? If your pistol was made for sale to the Govt. it would be stamped "Property of U.S., or U.S. Property", but is nevertheless a
Government Model. That is the model, regardless of who it was made for. Kind of like a Ford Explorer with or without a U.S. Govt. license plate still says "Explorer".
