Stevens 410 SXS
Hi, I just acquired a Savage/Stevens Model 311 series H 410 SXS shotgun. I would like to know if someone could approximate the age for me. Serial # B1239xx. Thank you.

Took a quick look through the '98 Blue Book I keep in the office. It does not show that model. 0 -

I found a series R but could not find a H 0 -
look for a date code. It will be a circle with a letter and a number in it. This was used from 1949-68. Usually, it is behind the hinge pin or ahead of the triggerguard on the bottom of the frame. 0 -
According to the Blue Book, the model 311 (no suffixes given) was made between 1926 and 1945. Circa 145,500 were made. Sorry I can't get it any closer. 0 -
OK I know this one! Prior to 1968 they didn't put serial numbers on most Stevens guns because they weren't required to. The GunControl Act of 1968 changed that. So we know that it was made after 1968. Now pro-rating that out, the stevens guns still sold well into the late 70's so I'd say you're looking at 1974 or so. If it has "nicely" impresed checkering then it's between 68 and 75, later they got blockier with the wood and the checkering was very squarish! BTW the .410 double is VERY desirable no matter when it was made, and the Blue Book undervalues them by 50%. At least that's my observation. 0
