Ruger mini 14 Pre- ban?
Does anyone know the series that are included in the pre-ban. IE:180-181 ect. What series started the fiberglass gas guards? Thanks!!

Select... Since mini-14's are not assault weapons, there are no preban or postban versions. Mini-14's dont have pistol grips, flash suppressors, bayonet lugs or other offending features.
I believe they went to the plastic handguard with the 181 series. I have a 180 rifle and it has the wood handguard, and I have a 181 series and it has the blk plastic handguard.0 -
Laredo Lefty.. If they are not assault weapons then why are they on the list Uncle Sam has? Other factors determine banned weapons.. Clip size, folder or non folding stock, bayonet lug, and flash suppessors. 0 -

I have a pre-ban Mini-14 and an AC-556. Magazines are not a factor. As long as the mags were built before the ban, you can put them into anything that fits (without mods). Mine don't have bayonet lugs, maybe others do. Flash supressors, I believe are OK, as long as they are spot welded or pinned but not threaded. Now folding stocks can get you in trouble. I need to go back and read the rules but I believe you can have 2 or so bad things (on the bad things list) and be OK.
I'm probably not 100% right here but I know my buds will correct me!

Here we go again. Unless it is a GB model, the Ruger Mini-14 was not and is not an "assault weapon" as defined by the law. It makes no difference when a non-GB Mini-14 was made. There is no such thing as a "Pre-Ban" Mini-14 since no non-GB Mini-14 is an assault rifle.
With people constantly seeking "Pre-Ban" Mini-14 rifles, apparently a great many people think they can legally add two or more of the forbidden parts to a non-GB Mini-14 without illegally manufacturing an "assault weapon." They cannot.
Two or more of the forbidden parts cannot legally be added to a non-GB Mini-14 now, unless it had them before 9-13-94. If a particular Mini-14 had the forbidden parts before 9-13-94, they may stay on it (how will you know or prove it when buying a used one?), but you may not now legally add them to any other non-GB Mini-14 that did not have them by 9-13-94 no matter when it was made.
The reason the Mini-14 is on the "Uncle Sam List" is because the Mini-14 GB IS an assault rifle.
Flash hiders or flash suppressors are NOT OK unless they are on a "Pre-Ban Assault Rifle" or unless they are the only forbidden feature added to a centerfire non-assault rifle with the ability to accept a removable magazine. Threaded barrels are also forbidden on Post-Ban rifles. cbxjeff is confusing the requirement that recoil checks and muzzle brakes (which may look similar to a flash hider) be permanently attached to the barrel of a "Non-Assault Weapon." The apparent reason for that is to prevent someone from removing a recoil check or muzzle brake and installing an evil flash hider.
The limit on evil features is ONE, not "two or so," on a "non-assault weapon." The current M1A rilfes come with a flash hider but no bayonet lug in order to be legal by keeping the evil feature count to under two.0 -
