I bought a new Investarms .50 Cal Percussion Hawkins rifle about 10 years ago from a friend of mine that had a gun shop. I paid $160 for mine. It is very accurate.

I forgot to tell you to check www.gunbroker.com and check under firearms (collectable). There are a lot of black powder replica and antique firearms plus other related items at this auction site.

Wingnut....I bought one like yours over 20 years ago when I thought I would like to add some extra days to my deer season. I shot it 3 seasons, then put it in the case and forgot about it until this year when I decided to muzzleload hunt again. Mine is very accurate, but only with certain powder loads and bullets. Guess most muzzle loaders are like that though. Experiment with some different bullets and powders and you should find one that shoots straight for you and your gun. I had forgotten how much fun smoke-sticks can be! I can't help you with value or sites, but they are fun. Shoot it and enjoy! Just remember to clean it EVERY TIME you shoot it.

Taxation WITH representation isn't so hot, either!

Thanks all for the advice. Hearing that you got a good deal at around $160 make me feel good about paying $50 for this guy. I took it apart earlier, and it is in perfect condition.

Don't know if I'll shoot this rifle anytime soon, but it does sound like fun. Make me think how good we have it with those nice pre-loaded rounds and semi-auto actions!

You got a heck of a deal for $50. I would buy another one or more at that price if I ever run into any in the condition you described. I shoot mine with a .490 round ball and a prelubed T/C patch and between 50 and 80 grains of RS Pyrodex. I shoot mine off hand between 50 and 75 yards and rarely miss my targets of 1/2 and 1 gallon milk containers. I have not hunted with it because I use one of my in-lines when hunting.
