I have a Colt Government Model, ser #252XXX-C. Can anyone give me an approx date of manufacture. Thanks.

  The date of manufacture is not available. The only records Colt kept were shipping records. According to the charts, your pistol probably was shipped in late 1951. The only way to know for sure, is to get a factory letter. If your pistol is nice, it will add more than the $100 cost to the value. Sometimes you find out something interesting about what appears to be a common gun, such as a special order trigger pull, shipment to a special person, etc..

  that serial # indicates 1951 ( as per Hallock's handbook) hope it helps.

  The current blue book has a COLt serialization on 1911.s listed by serial number, number made, manufacturer, IE: (Remington) (Singer} and year..

  Any ideas on the value of such a piece? It has been refinished in a black parkerize finish and has Pachmyer wraparound grips.
