Looking to buy a barrel for my encore for varmint hunting what is a good caliber? 223-243-ect.

  Split the difference, And go with a 22-250. You will be happy , But the varmints wont.

  Depends on what you are calling a varmint, if you are concerned about pelt damage I would go with the 223. If not the 243 can shoot heavier bullets, into the relm of hunting bullets. As a mater of fact, I'v read where it is leagl to do so, this cal. is used for deer sized game. The 243 might be more versital.
