Your Longest .22LR shot ever.....??

The other day i decided to take a long, long shot on one of the small mischevious blackbirds who had situated himself on a distant telephone pole. Guesstimating the range i used the hold-over technique and about a full second after I fired i heard a loud THWOCK and the bird dropped. I stepped it off at an honest 171 yards from my shooting posistion. This was using a Marlin 25n with Remington subsonics .22lr ammo. I was just wondering what everyone elses longest .22lr shot has been? I think it be interesting to see what some of the better shots on here have accomplished with this round.

    1975. JC Higgins bolt action, open sights, shot almost a full 50 rd. box before I hit a Coors can at 1/4 mile (measured with car odometer) in high West Texas winds. I don't think I can see that far now.

    Wow, I guess 171 yards isnt that far.... 1/4-1/2 mile is a long way with a rimfire.

    As a kid, I did a stupid thing. My brother and I were walking along the shore of a lake and we spotted a buzzard circling several hundred yards away very high in the air. He boasted he could bring the bird down with one shot: amazingly he did. Almost 35 years later we still talk about the shot. The bird came down in ever tightening circles, kinda like a helicopter autorotates. The bird was hit by a creasing shot in the top part of the neck. His wings were obviously affected but he was able to effect a safe landing and shortly thereafter made a quick get away on foot. It was a long time ago, but I'll bet the shot was 250-350 yards and was the luckiest shot I have ever experienced.

    Many years ago when we would site in our squirrel guns, after the paper punchin was done we would see who could come closest to the primer (fired) on an old 12 ga. hull laid down so all you could see was the round brass end and we hit it with some concistancy at 100 steped off 13 yr. old paces. We hit the brass a lot,but not always the primer.

    I was B S-ing with a buddy when I was 17 at his farm and we had our single sixes with us when he commented about a bunch of ducks that were using his pool to swim in and how he hated to clean up all the mess they made all the time, they were down at the cattle pond about 300+ yds away when I drew and shot from the hip and hit a duck right in the head, I could not believe it, the duck became supper for us later .

    I can only shoot at 100 yrds at my range. I wish I could try out longer shots.

    I did shoot some 100 yd targets before the range Nazi chased me back to the 50 yard range. The particular range, sadly no longer in business, had a little known rule that 22LR wasn't allowed on the 100 yard range unless you had a heavy barrel gun. Never did get to figure out the drop at 100 yards.

    My father had a marlin lever 22 which I used to use to shoot gophers. It had a duplex type scope. At about 150 yards the "thick" of the crosshair was dead on. If the wind wasn't blowing you could religeously smack a gopher at 150, and do it fairly often at 200+

    A long time ago, I lived on the Cossatot River in Arkansas. One time when the river got up it carried off someone's jon boat. The current slammed the boat into a tree and bent it around the tree. When the river level subsided there was this folded in half boat high up in a tree on the opposite river bank. The distance was about 250 yards.

    We would shoot at the boat because we could hear the bullet hit, well over a second after we shot. Granted, the target was not small, but it was a long way off. I could hit it every time with my Colt Diamondback .22.
