S&W Sigma

Any opinions good or bad about the s&w sigma sw9ve 9mm. I'm still looking for a 9mm. Don't want to rush and end up dissapointed.

    I saw several S&W Sigma 9mm and .40S&W pistols for ~$330+ at a local gun show and I was kind of interested in buying one in .40S&W. Anyone have any experience with these guns? Have you found them to be reliable and accurate? I'm tempted to get an SW40F full size, maybe with night sights. I'd like to get your thoughts on these guns, I may possibly buy one when the gun show next comes to town. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

    Not a bad gun, BUT high cap mags are rather hard to come by. For a few more dollars you can get a used Glock etc. I know of two depts that use the Sigma and have NO problem with them, or at least no worse than any other brands they'd had. I haven't checked but suspect holster selection may be an issue.
    I've seen used Sigmas from various sources well under $300. You may want to shop for price. Check on CDNN Investments and some police supply places. Prices can vary a lot on various models. Nothing beats shopping around. In that price range it's hard to make a bad decision, you just want to make the BEST decision.

    I bought my used 40 cal Sigma for $275. But that was five years ago. I have had no problems with it, and I carry Hydroshocks with the fifteen round clips.

    I am a big fan of the Sigma because I think the grip shape and angle are about the best ever. I have very early versions in both 9x19 and .40 S&W. Both are reliable, but my round count is not high on either.

    While magazines are not inexpensive, they are available at a cost comparable to most Glock magazines.

    The current guns are much improved over the early ones like mine, in fit, finish and function.

    I have done some repair on the Sigma series. It is a well made pistol. They shoot well and the accuracy is modarate to good. Sope around for a better price.

    I have never owned or shot one but GUN TESTS did a review of them and it wasnt very glowing...I think the term was jam session.Only thing i can say is GUN TESTS does not take advertising money and they buy all their test guns off the shelf,unlike all the rest of the gun mags who have them shipped from the manufacturer

    You will get BETTER info HERE. They may have had a problem with ONE gun. Meaningless. You may find dozens or more SIGMA owners here or other products we worry about. By Gun Tests standards my G17 was crapola. Out of the box it had issues. And not all gun mags get the guns from manufacturers. I often did stories on guns I aquired and thought were unique. What guns I got from manufacturers often were indeed off the shelf as such. Consumer Reports does a review of hundreds or thousands of owners before they do reviews on most vehicles. It is an accumulated gathering of information that reveal problems if any. Gun makers don't spend a fortune in R&D to make junk (low end types not included) or defective material. you can't find ONE brand that hasn't got failures. If you look at this thread you find mention of a LOT of Sigma's and the ONLY negative mention is from Gun Tests. That says a LOT.

    I have one in .40 caliber its the SW40V and I like the gun it shoots well and has been nothing but reliable.And as far as safety goes they must have a very good safety.I had bought a belly band to carry off Duty.Myself and wife went to some property we own in the Boonedocks about 20 miles from our Home.This was the first time I had carried the gun and the first time I used the belly band.I was putting up some psted signs and was up on a bank at least 10ft above the dirt road,when the gun fell out of the belly band and bounced on the hard dirt road about three times.I was truly expecting it to go off.Thank God it didnt and all it done to the gun was put a place on the polymer grip.Needless to say the Belly Band dont get used any more.

    rugster, Toujours Pret. Member of 2nd. armored cav. ? I served with the 2nd A.C.R in the Gulf. Anyway the Sigma shouldn't fire when droped because the striker stays foward untill the trigger bar pushes it rearward. A verry safe gun.

    Just to add, the Sigma High Capacity mags aren't that tough to find. I have the factory high capacity mags available in both 9mm (17rd) and .40cal (15rd). They aren't as cheap as some magazines. They will run the same or less than Glock high capacity mags. The S&W Sigma mags are steel, not plastic (with a metal liner) like Glock. LRARMSX@MCHSI.COM

    CDNN had them for $69..Glocks around here are far more up to $100+.
    If used they are around $49 for the Sigma mags.
